LATIN AMERICAN CREATORS NETWORK (2021)

Obertura Carabanchel 2024 was the third edition of this contemporary art fair/festival, held from November 15 to 17, 2024 at the Galería Nueva headquarters (c/ Alejandro Sánchez 94, Carabanchel neighborhood, Madrid).

It is an event that seeks to give visibility to contemporary proposals — often of an emerging or experimental nature — in an accessible format, with a small number of galleries/projects, and a program that combines exhibition of works, video art, performance and interventions in neighborhood spaces.

In its 2024 edition, approximately a dozen national and international galleries participated, seeking to activate the Carabanchel district as a space for the creation and circulation of contemporary art.

In the 3rd edition of Obertura Carabanchel, Sebastián Boesmi transforms Galería Nueva into a vibrant threshold: his canvases burst with color, while his sculptures—as dense as they are dreamlike—rise on white pedestals like hybrid signs, a blend of animal, myth, and urban matter. Brutal in its chromatic intensity, subtle in its tension between the organic and the geometric, his work evokes memory, flow, and polysemy.

Obertura—that 'opening' to contemporary art—becomes with Boesmi an intimate and monumental exploration: a territory where painting, sculpture, and presence converse with the precise, complete, and perfectly suited space. A celebration of multiplicity, a vital impulse that transforms Carabanchel into a territory of art.
